Flexible power
Flower’s name stems from the term “flexible power”. It’s a concept that goes to the heart of the clean-energy services and technology that this Swedish company, headquartered in Stockholm, provides.
As founder and CEO John Diklev explains, “The transition to renewables cannot happen without smart systems to regulate and optimise our power grids.”
The energy to succeed
Whether you produce clean energy, consume it or own the infrastructure that distributes it, reliable regulation tools are essential. To this end, Flower’s cutting-edge forecasting, optimisation and trading software and investment in modern energy infrastructure, such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that support the main grid, are helping to deliver a steady and reliable electricity supply. At the same time, Flower is revolutionising how renewables, from solar to wind, are managed.
Powering progress
Flower’s expertise in software development and battery storage systems enables those it works with to unlock the untapped potential of their energy assets while supporting the electricity grid with flexibility and reducing costs.
For example, in 2023, Flower applied its optimisation platform to a battery park in the small industrial town of Grums, Sweden. The following year, the battery system proved to be instrumental in stabilising the national grid when a nuclear plant in Forsmark was temporarily taken out of operation. As a result, the episode passed without widescale impact and cost and generated returns for the energy asset owner that widely exceeded expectations.
On a consumer-facing level, Flower has launched the Flower Hub, a smart home-energy-management device that connects to domestic battery systems. It offers homeowners control and flexibility over their energy service while generating an extra income for the household. The service uses the energy from homes to effectively support and stabilise the electric power grid across Sweden.
